Card Tricks

This is the catch-all shelf. When a trick doesn’t fit neatly anywhere else, or fits everywhere at once, it lands here. Right now the star of the shelf is The Mirrored Mind Reader, a lovely piece where you seem to read a spectator’s thoughts using nothing but a shuffled deck and a quietly remembered key card.

Who is it for? Honestly, anyone with a deck in their hand and ten minutes to spare. You don’t need special cards or fancy moves. What you do need is a little patience: read the whole trick once, then walk through it slowly with the cards in front of you, then do it again without looking at the page.

Most of the tricks on this site lean on a handful of old ideas. A card you secretly know, a pile that gets dealt in a clever order, a choice that isn’t really a choice. Once you spot those ideas you’ll start seeing them everywhere, and you’ll be able to invent your own variations.
